Members may receive coverage for outpatient and inpatient services, addiction rehab treatment, and emergency hospitalization related to drug and alcohol abuse at minimal or no cost. Veterans Benefits
Veterans with Tufts Medicare Preferred HMO and Tufts Health Plan Senior Care Options who struggle with substance abuse may qualify for additional benefits to support their recovery. The Aid and Attendance Benefit assists with healthcare costs at home, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes. Inpatient Respite provides short-term respite services for caregivers of veterans. The Home Improvements and Structural Alterations for Disability covers costs for home improvements due to health conditions related to drug or alcohol addiction.
Covered Services
Tufts Health Plan covers outpatient care services, including substance abuse treatment, medication, evaluation, and monitoring, with no additional costs. Members can receive outpatient diagnosis and treatment for co-occurring disorders like depression, anxiety, and eating disorders that often accompany substance use disorders. Inpatient and intermediate services covered include medical detox, acute residential treatment, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, outpatient therapy, medication management, medication-assisted treatment, and no-cost opioid overdose reversal medications to support comprehensive addiction recovery.
