Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Services
In addition to health care services, the VA offers vocational rehabilitation and employment services to eligible veterans in Indiana. These programs are designed to assist veterans in obtaining and maintaining employment, as well as supporting their overall well-being and quality of life. Vocational rehabilitation services may include job training, education assistance, and support for starting a small business.
Eligibility for Vocational Rehabilitation
To be eligible for VA vocational rehabilitation services, veterans must have a service-connected disability that impacts their ability to work. They must also have received a discharge other than dishonorable and have a VA disability rating of at least 10%. Veterans who meet these criteria can apply for vocational rehabilitation services through their local VA office or by contacting the VA’s Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) program directly.
Once enrolled in the VR&E program, veterans will work with a vocational rehabilitation counselor to develop an individualized plan for employment. This plan will take into account the veteran’s skills, interests, and any limitations related to their service-connected disability. The counselor will then provide guidance and support to help the veteran achieve their employment goals, which may include assistance with job search strategies, resume development, and interview preparation.
Education and Training Assistance
For veterans who need additional education or training to achieve their employment goals, the VR&E program may provide financial assistance for tuition, books, and other education-related expenses. This assistance may be used to pursue a college degree, vocational training, or other educational programs that will enhance the veteran’s employability.
In addition to financial assistance, the VR&E program may also provide support services to help veterans succeed in their educational pursuits. These may include tutoring, academic advising, and accommodations for service-connected disabilities. The goal of these services is to ensure that veterans have the tools and resources they need to successfully complete their education and transition into meaningful employment.
